From a small shop to a leading factory,
employing 300 workers
-
1973
A sweet beginning: In 1973, Lenny Sackstin opened a tiny shop named "Ta'am Israel" (Taste of Israel) at the duty free area in the Ben Gurion airport. The shop was a great success, and within 1 year he could start manufacturing his own candy to sell in the small shop.
-
1975
The company grows: The manufacturing operations moved to a small factory in Rishon LeZion in 1975, and in 1980, the factory received its first chocolate making machine. This allowed the company to break into an entirely new field, and in 1989 it moved to a larger factory where its development continued.
-
1993
Carmit issues stocks: The company, which was called at first "Ta'am Israel" (Taste of Israel) issued stocks for trade on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange in 1993, and in 1996 changed its name to Carmit. Since then, it's production line has launched many new products for industrial clients and for household consumers: chocolate tablets and coins, wafers, cookies, marshmallow and frozen snacks.
-
2016
Getting bigger and sweeter: The company opened an independent sales department, and since then Carmit's sweets can be found in every store, no matter how large or small. Another factory was opened in 2019, and continues producing marshmallows and frozen snacks also today. That same year Carmit acquired Rafael's, high-quality granola brand.
-
2021
From the Galil to the world: The company moved to a larger more advanced and innovative factory in 2021. Out of a Zionist drive to strengthen the industrial sector in the north of israel, it was decided to establish the new factory in Nof HaGalil. Thanks to the many production lines, the new factory produces 10,000 tons of chocolate a year and exports products to many places around the world.
